GPR survey of Kogalym airfield pavements

The survey was aimed to determine the structural layers thickness and to discover structural abnormal areas of underlying soils at 1.5-1.6 m depth. Two antenna units were used at all sections: AB-700 an AB-1200.

The following results were obtained during survey:

  • Runaway paved surface features persistent structure and corresponds to the technical certificate data. No substantial breaches in the paved surface design were revealed.
  • Sand-and-cement layer stratification was revealed under one of the runaway plates, which is more likely connected with the increased humidity of the layer top.
  • High humidity lenses were detected at the several sections, under which runs a mechanical erosion process as reflected by the wave pattern. This is the reason of the runaway plates deformation.
