Urban Search & Rescue
Geotech develops radar-based urban search and rescue equipment for locating survivors trapped under rubble and debris after earthquakes, structural collapses, explosions and other natural or man-made disasters.
The RD-400 Radar Life Detector uses ground penetrating radar technology to detect small movements and breathing without direct physical or visual contact with the trapped person. The system is designed for emergency response teams, fire and rescue services, civil defence units and other organisations involved in urban search and rescue operations.
The portable system helps rescue personnel:
- detect movement beneath rubble and construction debris;
- identify breathing-related motion;
- estimate the distance to a detected survivor;
- conduct a non-contact search in areas with limited visual access;
- transmit results to a rugged tablet through a wireless connection.
The complete RD-400 kit includes the radar detector, rugged tablet, power supply, charger, radio modem, operating software and documentation.

How Does the RD-400 Radar Life Detector Work?
What does the RD-400 detect?
The RD-400 detects small movements and breathing-related motion from a person located beneath rubble or debris. The system also estimates the distance to the detected target.
Does the system require physical contact with the survivor?
No. The RD-400 performs non-contact detection by transmitting radar signals into the investigated area and analysing reflected signals associated with movement and breathing.
What information does the operator receive?
The rugged tablet displays detected movement and breathing signals and provides an estimated distance to the survivor.
What is included in the RD-400 kit?
The standard kit includes the radar detector, rugged tablet PC, power supply, chargers, radio modem, GeoScan32 software and operating documentation.
Who is the system designed for?
The RD-400 is intended for emergency response teams, fire and rescue services, civil defence organisations and specialist urban search and rescue units.
